12 days on, no work at BG field

BG Exploration and Prod uction India, a part of UK-based BG group, has not been able to resume prod uction of oil and gas at Panna-Mukta fields after they were closed 12 days back due to leakage from a hose.

?Inclement weather conditions have caused restoration work to progress at a slow rate. Hence, it is difficult to set a firm date for resuming production,? BG said in an e-mail response to Financial Chronicle.

Production came to a standstill at the Panna-Muk ta fields on July 20, owing to a leak in the sub-sea hose near the Panna single buoy mooring (SBM). ?Product I on of approximately 35,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 205 million standard cubic feet (mscf) of gas per day has been stopped,? the company said. The company didn?t divulge the financial losses due to the shutdown.

The field produces around 40,000 bopd and 205 mscf of gas every day. BG has 30 per cent stake in the field, while state-run ONGC has a participating interest of 40 per cent. Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Industries (RIL) has another 30 per cent stake in the project.

Halt in production has hit several customers including Gujarat Gas Com?pany, an official close to the development said. When asked how much is the percentage cut in supply to customers, BG said: ?Crude oil and gas supplies have been affected since the shutdown of Panna field. All efforts are underway to ensure that we resume production at the earliest.?

This is not the first time that production has been halted in the field. In July 2009, BG halted production due to leak in under-water pipelines. It took two weeks to resume supply.

In 2008, an explosion forced the operator to shut production for a month. An explosion occurred in the field when the facility was restarted after mainte?nance work in June 2008. One person was killed in the incident.
