Four of the top public sector companies of the country's Hydrocarbon Sector viz. Oil and Natural Gas
Corporation Limited (ONGC), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation
Limited (BPCL) and GAIL (India) Limited (GAIL) have invested in Petronet LNG. Each has a 12.5%
equity share, leading to a total of 50% for the four.
As per Articles of Association of the company, at any given point of time, not more than fifty percent (50%) of the
company’s share capital shall be held, whether directly or indirectly, by the Government, including any Government
Company and Public Sector Undertaking.
GDF SUEZ holds 10% and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), a member of the World Bank Group, holds 5.2% of the
equity. The balance equity (34.8%) is held by the public.
